Artists-in-Residence

Beginning in 2005, with the acclaimed American artist/activist Kim Abeles as our first Artist-in-Residence, ArtMill has invited one or two working artists each summer to come and join in the activities of our youth summer camp.

In 2012, we will again offer the original by-invitation-only short term residency during ArtMill Summer Camp PLUS 3 additional residency possibilities (each 1-3 weeks in duration).  Dates are flexible, starting in May and finishing in September.

The residency program is open to artists in the broad sense of the word: poets, writers, dancers, musicians, thinkers, creators, performers or painters of the future.

Requirements for Applicants for Artist-in-Residence:

  • at least 10 years of professional experience
  • a willingness to pitch in and work in the garden, help out on the farm on occasion, or otherwise participate in the ArtMill public activities by leading a workshop on your choice
  • independence and the ability to adjust to a new cultural environment
  • ability to do own cooking, cleaning, shopping
  • readiness for intense solitude peppered with chaotic activity that you can always choose to avoid

What we offer to Artists-in-Residence:

  • studio space with access to the workshop and all facilities at ArtMill
  • living space
  • food from the garden, whatever you pick
  • organic lunches if a program is running during your stay
  • midnight swims in the lake

All other costs: transportation, additional meals, materials must be provided by the artist.
