ArtMill Presentation to New York Audience

During an event, to celebrate the 20 year anniversary of the binational agreement founding the J. William Fulbright Commission, between the U.S.A. and Czechoslovakia, hosted by the Czech Center in New York, ArtMill instructor Carolanne Patterson provided an audience of distinguished guests with a fascinating presentation on the work of ArtMill.

Carolanne, who will once again take the role of instructor during this year’s Bohemian Workshops, has taught in the Art Department of New York University for the past 11 years, as well as Parson’s School of Design, in NYC. She was also a Fulbright Fellow to Prague in 1993-4.

The Fulbright Program is among the most prestigious of government scholarship programs. It was founded in 1946 based on legislation proposed by senator J. William Fulbright whose name it bears. More than 300,000 “Fulbrighters” have participated in the program since its inception. Annually, 8000 scholarships are awarded in 155 countries. Among the Fulbright alumni one will find Nobel Prize holders, Pulitzer Prize winners, governors and senators, ambassadors, artists, judges, prime ministers, outstanding scholars, researchers and ArtMill’s very own Barbara Benish and Alex Katis.

In Czechoslovakia, the Fulbright program started in the late seventies. Czech citizens couldn’t take full participation in the program until after the political changes in 1989. The binational agreement on founding the J. William Fulbright Commission between the United States and Czechoslovakia was signed in 1991. Through the scholarship programs, advising and information services, it aims at enhancing mutual understanding between the two countries.
