Rolling DEADLINE for ArtMill Workstudy Applications.

2016 PROJECTS:

All of these are interspersed with working in the garden, sharing food and cooking, gathering herbs, and occasional trips to town or the neighboring sites.

1. new Mill Museum: we are working to convert a space in the mill to a historical archive of the mill’s history and material culture. There are hundreds of documents and papers that need archiving, scanning and framing. There will be some new architectural elements added to the space (displays, etc.), and we will need to put all this up on our website. We also need to be writing grants for the future of this project, including funding to send the initial archives to an exhibition at the Czech/Slovak Museum in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, USA, that Sonya Darrow is organizing for us. (Fall, 2016). This will also include oral histories and videos of local residents who interacted with the mill in some way. This exhibition will also be travelling.

2. Landscape project. Richard Desanto will be creating a total landscaping map and plan for the mill grounds this summer. This includes the 5 various gardens, studio spaces, fountain, and swimming areas, creeks, ponds, and fields. There are also areas surrounding the lake which will be developed into public sculpture parks, documenting the history of the region and it’s eco-systems.

3. 1989 Archive: an ongoing documentation of ArtDialogue’s historical exhibition and project in 1989 just as the borders were opening up after years of totalitarianism. There is an oral history aspect to this, interviewing all artists in the original exhibition and their experiences. Also, the scanning and archiving of letters, reviews, works, images, etc. This is an important project that documents how art supports and helps maintain civil society. This exhibition is being prepared to be permanently archived at DOX museum in Prague.

4. Documentation and archiving of ArtMill’s history (2004-2014) as a case study: this includes the artworks of the children, artists in residence, and summer camps over a ten year period. Needs to be mounted on the website, and prepared for book publication. This includes all curriculum over the years, and results of informal learning experience. (follow ups with former students, etc).

5. Preparation for “Migrant” exhibition, 2017, at ArtMill. international (Greece, Spain, Africa)

6. Archiving of Galerie Califia artists, over a 7 year period. Preparation for catalogue, 2017
