Welcome Maribel!

Our summer intern is a photography student at Art Center in Pasadena, California

Maribel Barcena Lopez made the decision two years ago to develop her skill set and further her education by attending Art Center. Since whe was a child she has loved to travel, it's how her journey in photography started. She spent countless summer in Mexico and fell in love with being somewhere other than home.  It was also a way for her to connect to her Mexican heritage and discover more about her roots. In the last two years she has worked extensively with analog photography, really focusing on portraiture and narrative. The latest project "La Colonia" was shot in Tijuana, Mexico and explores personal connections and memories to the land left by her great-grandparents who were one of the first families to settle in that area.
